Students Win Entrepreneur Award for Competition Success CCSD Lemonade Day 10 6 22

Two Cherokee County School District students have earned an award for their entrepreneurial spirit!

Carmel Elementary School third-grader Ella Richmond and fourth-grader Elizabeth McCloskey today received the 2022 Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award presented by the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce.  The award recognized the outstanding business plan they created for the Chamber's Lemonade Day Cherokee County summer entrepreneurship program.

CCSD School Nutrition Wins Top Award for Outstanding Service CCSD School Nutrition Golden Radish Award logo 10 4 22

The Cherokee County School District has again earned a top state honor for providing outstanding meals and service to students!

CCSD's School Nutrition program, which serves 5 million meals each year in school cafeterias, won the Golden Radish Award from the Georgia Department of Education School Nutrition Division.

It's Georgia Pre-K Week, and we're honoring 30 years of Georgia's Pre-K Program! CCSD added a new classroom at Holly Springs ES STEM Academy this school year, and we now serve 220 Georgia Lottery Pre-K students in 10 classrooms at six elementary school campuses. This year's official Georgia Pre-K Week book is "Hey, Georgia" which encourages us to celebrate all that makes our state (and us!) unique. Four Cherokee County School District educators have earned top state awards for physical education teachers!

Jason Bermudez of Indian Knoll Elementary School has been named the Georgia Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.  The three teachers who make up the PE department for Liberty Elementary School -- Jose Lago, Rick Myers and Lucy Pence -- together earned the association's Award of Excellence in Physical Education.

CCSD School Named Microsoft Showcase School for Second Year Indian Knoll ES 2022-23 Microsoft Showcase 9 29 22

Indian Knoll Elementary School for the second consecutive year has earned a global honor recognizing its dedication to effectively using technology for teaching and learning!

The school has been selected by Microsoft as a 2022-23 Microsoft Showcase School in honor of its successful use of educational technology to benefit students and teachers.  Only 43 U.S. schools were selected as Showcase Schools, and only two Georgia schools were named to the list.

CCSD Class of 2022 Outscores State & Nation on SAT 2022 SAT INFOGRAPHIC

Cherokee County School District's Class of 2022 outscored the state and nation on the SAT college entrance exam, according to results released today by the College Board.

The CCSD Class of 2022 earned an average total score of 1091 on the curriculum-based college entrance and placement exam.  CCSD's score exceeds the national public school average by 63 points and the State by 39 points and ranks CCSD in the top 10% of districts statewide.

CCSD Students Honored with National College Board Awards CollegeBoard logo

The College Board has honored 88 Cherokee County School District students through its National Recognition Programs awards!

CCSD's honorees are among the only 62,000 students from across the country being recognized for their academic success.  To be considered for recognition, students must have a GPA of at least 3.5 and either exceptional test scores placing them in the top 10% in their state on the 2021 PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10, or scores of 3 or higher on two of more 2022 Advanced Placement (AP) exams and meet recognition guidelines.

Board Business Briefs: Annual School Improvement Plans Approved

The Cherokee County School Board on Thursday approved the annual school improvement plans for all CCSD schools.

As part of the district's plan to continuously improve schools, every school is required to prepare an improvement plan for each new school year.

Every school is required, as part of its plan, to establish two three-year specific measurable goals to improve student achievement.  The plan must include research-based strategies addressing student learning at all learning levels, teacher professional development plans, timelines for student learning intervention strategies and explain how student learning progression will be monitored and measured.

The district is one of only 38 school districts in the world to today be named a 2022 Cognia School System of Distinction by the international accreditation organization.

Five Cherokee County School District high school seniors today were named 2023 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists!

They are: of Cherokee HS, Griffen C. Bon and Braden R. Flournoy; of Creekview HS, Kylie A. Buchanan; of Etowah HS, Ty S. Phillips; and of Sequoyah HS, Paige L. Falcomata.  Less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors earn National Merit Semifinalist recognition.
